Rd 5: Coaches Notes

U16 Team Tankey

The footy gods speak in mysterious ways. The early going of our clash with Williamstown suggested they had no umbrage with proceeding's, our 19 available players making good use of a stiff Buckley Street bound breeze.

The status quo continued early in the second until those gods became wrestless. Jye Raciti trudged off clutching his wrist, moments later the famous number 12, Cooper Hogan, hobbled off too. Suddenly we were down to 17 against a star studded Willy with a gale and a spare helping them ram on 7 goals in a blink.

The boys could have been excused for succumbing, the gods had spoken, it wasn't their day. But the Willy coach accepted a proposal to play 17 v 17 in the second half, his bench becoming 7 rather than 6.

The gods had tried, but our boys wouldn't be stopped. Without another rotation,  they hit the lead with a quarter to go and the most epic final stanza ensued.

As the siren sounded, scores were level, but Willy had marked on their goal line seconds earlier. They kicked the winning goal after the siren, but somehow, at least over those footy gods, we felt like winners.

U14G Team Roach

Girls were outplayed in the 2nd and 3rd quarter but finished strong with the last two goals, going down by 14 points to Werribee Districts.

Highlights were Alice Healy’s 50m long bomb bouncing goal and Piper Odlum’s running bounces from the kickouts. Special shoutout to Millie Zanetti who didn’t lose a contest all day down back, in only her 5th game of footy.

U14 Team Bloomfield

The boys headed out to West Footscray and it was a fantastic game of football today by this group.

It was a tough first half, but they managed to head into the  half time break with a 15 point lead.

After halftime, they came out firing, stuck to the game plan we’ve been working on all season. Changing angles and making the ground big making it harder for the opposition to defend our ball movement. The end result was 7 goal victory.

Special mention to
•  Dean Moretti who absolutely dominated today and showed why he’s among the top half dozen players in the competition.
•  Big H, who slotted 2 goals as well as the 4 goal assists.

U14 Team Sacco

It was a tough day at the office today. We had 6 massive outs, resulting in no I/C. We lost to this side by 5 points only 2 weeks ago in a very even affair.

Today undermanned it was a 15-goal loss. The scoreline did not reflect the effort by the 18 who battled manfully all day. There was some exceptional ball movement with speed at times, and very clean hands were the positives.

Standout game from Jack Saad also Jacob Calleja, Tom Hickey, Joel  Zammit, and Michele Inguanti. Congratulations to Will Humann on his 50th game today.

U12G Team Zucco

The U12 Girls took on West Footscray at home today and won a nail biter by 1 point! The girls were out of the blocks faster than Usain Bolt, charging to a 3-goal lead at half-time. Goal scorers were Alyssa Galle, Ella McGowan, and Ruby Bayliss.

While we didn’t kick another goal after the break, the girls defended their hearts out. It was a true team effort, with every player contributing and achieving the goals they set before the game.

Special mentions to our Slay Queens, Sienna Galle and Ella McGowan, for their determination and effort today. Well done girls!

U12 Team Farrugia

Talk about belting the song out, our boys had a 5gl win after a 2 pt loss 2 weeks ago to the same team.

We had some ins from the last game and moved some magnets, More pressure in the forward 50 created many turnovers that we pounced on and kicked goals.

Back 6 still solid holding WFootscray to 0 gls. A massive team effort by all, great div1 start!

U12 Team Trewin

Our U12 Team Trewin stepped up to Division 2 today and showed they’re more than ready for the challenge, grabbing a gritty 3-point win over PEGs at Windy Hill. The excitement was real—from the players to the families—and the boys didn’t disappoint.

They controlled the game for most of the first three quarters with great teamwork and pressure. PEGs kicked a late goal in the third to swing some momentum their way, but our boys held firm in the last. It was tense, but they stuck to their roles, defended brilliantly, and got the job done.

This team is all about even contribution, and once again, every player had a moment that mattered. Whether it was a big tackle, a smart kick, or just sticking to the game plan, everyone played their part.

Special shoutouts to Darcy Smith, Kai Saunders, Sammy Wallis, Freddie Cooper, and Levi Micheletto—who flew back from Sydney this morning just to make sure he didn’t miss Round 1. That’s dedication!

Huge effort, boys. Super proud of how you handled the step up and the pressure. Go Bernards!

U12 Team Fitzpatrick

Another solid effort by the boys in an entertaining game out at Yarraville this morning where our opponents got the better of us by 39 points.

The Heartland award went to James (Prince) Vasile for a superb game where he pulled in 8 marks and repelled countless attacks.

Alessandro (Rolls) Bassilone played another superb game and booted a great major after dancing around a couple of opponents while Jordan (JD) Elkhouri was a rock in defence !

U10G Team Smith

U10 Girls - Our girls bounced back against Newport with a great team performance. BOG (could've gone to anyone) was Willow Cameron, special mention to our pocket rocket tackling machine Pippa Biggs who had 10 for the day.

U10 Team Biggs

U10 Team Manley

A solid performance against a strong Werribee Districts side. Quick ball movement was this weeks focus and the boys applied it well, resulting in much more open play.

It was a tight game for three quarters where we matched them for possession and scoring. Their fitness in the last told, with their strong players taking the ascendancy and were able to kick away.

Best player for the day was Rishi Vasih, who battled well above his weight division and won many contests. Strong performances also from Justin Moretti, Taylor Cittarelli and skipper for the day Jack Tamhane.

U8 Team Ryan

After being in cruise control for the first 3 quarters we went to sleep in the final quarter which hurt us in the end. Spirit of heartland award winner was Liam Stapleton who played brilliantly.

And BOG to Jye Carvounaris who was everywhere today including playing a quarter for the opposition in the last where he torched us.

So plenty of key learnings to take out of the match especially for the coach.

U8 Team Cameron

A great team effort against a strong West Footscray side, going down by a couple of goals.

Each week we continue to improve as a team, and every player is getting involved with some excellent passages of play from one end to the other.

Congrats to our heartland winner James Galle, strong contributions also from Gus Vescio, Will Liberatore and Rory Byrne who also kicked his first career goal.

U8 Team Mirtsis

Under 8's mirtsis went down to pegs today at windy Hill, great effort by our captain courageous xavier, smoothers and skill were outstanding, Rocco a rock in defence,  Jack with a blind turn and goal of the year contender, Thomas with his punishing tackles and strong hands, leo great forward efforts, lots of room to improve and grow as the season goes on well done team!
