Rd 6: Coaches Notes
U16 Team Tankey
We need this" was the message pre-game as Point Cook arrived at the Snakepit with their motley crew of mullets, undercuts and a calf covered with tattoos! Under 16 footy is different out West!
Co-captains Jura and Jono conjured another winning coin toss, taking the 3 goal Buckley Street bound breeze on offer. Dividends collected early as we banked a good lead before Pt.Cook split us open with 5 goals of their own in the second, a tough and willing half with just 3 points in it.
We played an outstanding second half, using the conditions well in the third kicking 6 goals to 1, 26 points up at the final change after cult figure Liam "Baz" Barry kicked his second on the siren.
We took the game away from the labouring Bulldogs in the last, it was text book into the wind style footy, a brave, ferocious and smart 27 point victory.
We needed it and we got it, a statement win, we rest for the King then Yarraville await!
U14G Team Roach
Smashed Williamstown
The girls dominated play against Williamstown and were huge defensively, but wasted plenty of shots on goal in a 24 point win.
Kept Willy to just one score for the game, but only snagged 3 goals from our 20 odd shots on goal. Tilly ‘The Rizzler’ Rizzo played a blinder to earn the heartland, Freya ‘Zero’ Redl was back to her Heeney like best and Macy ‘Big Chook’ and Tay Tay Taylor Clues were huge in ruck.
U14 Team Bloomfield
As I was preparing for my pre-match address, a parent asked me, How do you think we’ll go today?
I simply replied, Honestly, I have no idea and to be fair, I don’t really care. What matters to me today is whether we’ve improved from when we played them two weeks ago.
To my surprise not only had we improve, but we managed a 14-goal turnaround in just two weeks.
All I can say is that I was an extremely PROUD coach. Every single week, this group turns up to training and puts in the hard work, and today they proved to themselves, family and the competition what can happen when they play 4 quarters of football.
Did they do everything I asked for today, NO but what they did do was have a real crack playing the way I’ve been asking them to all season and the result was a comfortable five-goal win against the bench mark team of the competition who hadn’t been troubled all season.
U14 Team Sacco
Our side today came up against an Albion team that would rival most Div 1 teams for size and brute strength. Made up almost entirely of year 8 top age and multiple inter league players.
We were, and we are disastrously undersized in this division so far!
None the less, after a week filled with illness and injury, we fielded a side, just.... Many of them are still feeling the effects of a week in bed.
We were within striking distance at half time, only 3 goals down, but eventually lost by 37 points.
Absolute stand-out performance from Michele "The Bull" Inguanti. He was huge for us today, and he was well supported by Tom Hickey, Jack McConvill, Joel Zammit, and Jacob Calleja. Ruben Olanda was great in his 50th game, and so was Henry Hill despite coming off a bad bout of the flu this week.
The coaching staff singing the praises of a brave and bold performance with huge hearts from this group despite the physical inequalities that exist for the team in Div 3.
U12G Team Zucco
We were outsized and outnumbered, but that didn’t matter, running out 21-point winners in a tough contest.
Our Slay Queens, Alex Lancashire and Amani Idris, led the way with courage and determination, while Lily Campolongo showed incredible improvement, earning the Heartland Award in just her 6th game of footy.
It was a defensive masterclass, with the girls holding Albion to just 1 point - thanks to the relentless tackling of Sophia Konstantinidis and Alyssa Galle.
And a special mention to Daisy Zucco, who slotted a brilliant goal after copping a tackle that resembled a WWE move.
U12 Team Farrugia
Headed out to the FootyFactory Willi in Blustery conditions off to a Bad start few of us missed the Willi Rd Turnoff which was a bad sign, then I refused to take our ruckmans Dad's phone call in the hope he was not out which turned out to be the case, besides that we kept them scoreless in the first quarter until they realised the challenge was there and they switched on for the second and banged on 6 gls with the wind.
We then fought out a tough loss and made the kids realize why they have won every game by 80 pts .Great lesson nevertheless, that's Div1 and half the Willi team from last year's under 12s Div1 granny win. Lessons to Learn!
U12 Team Trewin
Today’s match against Flemington was always going to be a tough challenge, and it certainly delivered. While the scoreboard didn’t fall our way, the experience was incredibly valuable for the development of our team. There were some great patches of play, strong individual efforts, and most importantly—we never gave up. That’s something to be proud of.
We were under real pressure in the first half, but the way we responded after halftime showed real character and resilience. We tightened up our structures, lifted our intensity, and controlled much of the third quarter. Unfortunately, we just couldn’t convert our opportunities on the scoreboard.
In the final term, we were kicking into the wind and chasing a margin. Flemington managed to pull away again, but that didn’t take away from the effort we showed. The boys kept pushing, kept running, and stayed in the contest right to the end.
These games are always tough, but we’ll continue to approach them from a learning and development perspective. We’ll take the lessons, keep building, and come back stronger after the long weekend.
A big thank you to everyone who came down to support, and a huge congratulations to:
Tom Vescio on a ripper 50th game
Darcy Smith, Ollie Carroll, Will Hickey, Austin Bloomfield and Alex Malakellis on solid games
Kai Saunders for toughing it out
U12 Team Fitzpatrick
A terrific effort by the under 12’s (Div 6) team at home today where the boys powered over the top of the Aintree Giants in a commanding 4 quarter effort !
The game was played in great spirit by both clubs with standout performances by Ari (Jet) Morphou who booted 4 snags, Alessandro (Rolls) Basilone was again everywhere and helped himself to two goals while setting up several more and Owen (Chief) Jackman played a great game and is on the verge of a dominant performance with his aerial and long kicking skills getting better by the week. Ed (Wasp) Kernich also laid his claim for goal of the year after swooping on a loose ball, taking a bounce and kicking truly from 35metres out of you don’t mind ! James (Prince) Vasile also booted a beauty before hitting the post moments later - ending with 1.2 for the day.
All in all, a great team effort by all the boys with the above mentioned and Will Barham (2 goals) finishing off some fine work further afield !
U10G Team Smith
Also smashed Willi
Flash Cameron kicked 4 goals in q1, Biggys notched up another 10 tackles, Grovsey kicked her first goal, Craig Macrae did his best Todd Panell impersonation with the white vest on but it wasn't to be, our girls were way too good.
U10 Team Biggs
We played Yarraville in a blustery affair. We were warned that this side was decent and decent they were.
Remy Earl captained well all day from the ruck and debutant Emiliano Fajardo, all the way from Columbia, was solid on the wing. John Paul Healy was our BOG, racking up a lot of hardball gets and following team rules with blocks, tackles, smothers and multiple efforts at the contest.
As the game wore on, it came down to the pressure they put us under whilst we had possession, and who used the wind better.
In the end, YSE were too strong, but our boys didn’t give up. Leo Biggs was a good example of this, with plenty of hard tackling and great ball use.
Thank you to Justin Stinga Morretti and Raine Storm Colhurst for assisting. Looking forward to coaching both of you one day

U9 Team Round
A crisp start to Round 6 saw us head up the highway and onto a frost-covered oval at Werribee – proper winter footy. From the opening bounce, it was a fierce arm wrestle, with Werribee setting the tone through sharp transition and strong marking, jumping to an early two-goal lead.
Jack "Libba" Liberatore got us on the board with his first for the season right on the quarter-time siren, and was later rewarded with Best on Ground honours with a standout 4 quarter effort. Darcy "Duke" Round followed up with a major of his own, levelling the scores heading into the final term.
Not one backward step was taken all day – every player put their head over the footy, winning plenty of free kicks through sheer courage and commitment. The physicality of the contest was intense and noted by both sets of supporters, with plenty of praise for the way our boys stood up.
Valentino "Rossi" Orlando and Michael "Nails" Mikhael were outstanding in defence, saving 3–4 certain goals in the final quarter with desperate, last-line efforts. Lenny "Lightning" Marcina provided a heap of run and carry, breaking lines and driving us forward all day.
Flynn "Flipper" Wishart took home the Heartland Award after a dominant display in the middle, alongside fellow clearance king River "Rage" Cooper. Skipper Hayden "The Fly" Fitzpatrick led from the front and inspired with his trademark toughness and composure.
Werribee slotted one late to pinch it, but we walked off with heads held high, proud of a cracking team performance. We’ll be waiting for the rematch on our home deck – take that to the bank!
U8 Team Ryan
Out on the main oval for the first time this season, our team put in their best performance for the year against a very strong Werribee Districts side.
Highlights were our skipper Alarik Szymula giving a great speech pregame and following it up with some excellent contributions on the field.
Thomas Demaria scored his first goal for the year and Felix Orlando aka the smother king didn’t let the fresh conditions stop him saving a couple of goals with his bare hands.
Billy Ryan hustled well getting in and under while Gus Franz continued his great season with plenty of touches.
Super game by the boys and already looking forward to our next match!
U8 Team Cameron
Our kids took on Werribee Districts on our home turf in what was clearly our best game of the season.
The kids have been building nicely over the past few weeks and it’s been great to see all of the areas we’ve been practicing at training are beginning to show out on match day. Each time the opposition looked to kick away, we responded quickly in a real back and forth game. After hitting the front early the last we conceded some late goals eventually going down by two goals.
Jonah Kolokithas, Hunter Day, Rory Byrne, Darcy Langford and Ashton Verona all played their best games of the short careers, while Will Liberatore again hit the scoreboard with another three goals.
U8 Team Mirtsis
Great performance from our u8's team this morning against a tough caroline springs, multiple goals every qrt, and the hunt and want for the ball was evident, lead by captain orlando we powered through for a 6 goal win
